How to get free LED light bulbs? ›

Swap your halogens with LEDs with the same wattage

The actual wattage of the LED may vary, but just make sure the equivalent wattage is the same as your current halogen bulbs. For example, let's say you have a 40W halogen light. Make sure you replace it with a 40W equivalent LED bulb.

If your LED or HID headlight bulbs are not turning on, the cause is likely a polarity issue. LED and HID bulbs are polarity sensitive, which means that if the positive doesn't line up with the positive and the negative with the negative, no power will flow from the vehicle to the bulb.

As long as the mounting base (socket) is the same size and type, you can use an LED bulb in an existing fixture. If the mounting base isn't the same size and type, the LED bulb will not fit the socket. You should never use a bulb with a higher wattage than what is recommended for the fixture.

According to FMVSS, the only way a vehicle with LED headlights is legal is if it came from the manufacturer that way. There are regulations about the reach, aim, and width of the headlight patterns.
