  • Penne pasta is a type of pasta that is cylindrical in shape and has a hollow interior. It originated in Italy.
  • Alfredo sauce (such as Classico Light Alfredo Sauce) - is a rich and creamy sauce that is commonly used in Italian cuisine. It is made with butter, heavy cream, and Parmesan cheese, and can be seasoned with garlic, salt, and pepper.
  • Store-Bought Marinara typically refers to a pre-made tomato-based sauce that can be purchased at a grocery store. It is a convenient option for those who want to save time in the kitchen. I love Rao's marinara.
  • Shredded Reduced-Fat Cheese has a lower calorie count and less saturated fat than regular cheese, but it may also have a different taste and texture. It also helps with keeping the calorie count pretty low for this recipe.
  • Shredded parmesan cheese - is a hard, granular cheese that originated in Italy. It is typically made from cow's milk and has a sharp, nutty flavor. Parmesan cheese is often grated and used as a topping for pasta dishes, salads, and other foods.

How much liquid do you use to bake pasta? ›

Even though we're not boiling a pot, our pasta still needs liquid to cook. In your baking dish, combine your noodles with all of your other ingredients and around ½ a cup of water. The noodles will absorb the water as they cook. The final dish will be saucy and moist, but not watery.

What is difference between pasta sauce and marinara sauce? ›

Why is my pasta bake still watery? ›

There are a couple of reasons why your pasta bake might be runny. Sauce that is thick at room temperature or from the fridge will thin out in the hot oven. It is better to have a thicker sauce at the beginning, so it will be the right consistency after cooking. TIP: Find out how to thicken any sauce or stew here.

How do you thicken pasta bake sauce? ›

Cornstarch: Make a slurry of half water, half cornstarch and whisk until smooth. Cornstarch is a powerful thickener, so start by whisking in no more than 1 tablespoon of the mixture per 2 cups of simmering sauce; stir and simmer for 2 minutes, check the thickness, and repeat with more slurry as needed.

What is the best pasta shape for pasta bake? ›

For Baked Pasta Dishes

As for picking the perfect pasta shape, we recommend choosing a short cut—like Penne, Shells or Rigatoni—with hollow middles, twists or scoop-like shapes to capture all the goodness of your baked pasta: sauces, small ingredients and melty cheeses galore.

Can you use any pasta sauce for pasta bake? ›

What is the difference between lasagna and pasta bake? ›

You can swap the lasagna noodles for a thin layer of pasta of your choice, such as penne or even macaroni, but this will transform the dish into a layered pasta bake. It will have a decidedly different texture than lasagna and likely won't cut quite as neatly.

Can you overcook pasta bake? ›

What happens when you overcook pasta? It turns into mush, a pasty version of what it is supposed to be. I would just throw it away and start over again.

Should you undercook pasta for pasta bake? ›

Undercook pasta when adding to another dish that requires additional cooking. If fully cooked, it may become overdone when cooked for additional time in the finished dish.
